USA Today: Meat-Eaters Consume 7,000 Animals in a Lifetime

USA Today reports that the average meat-eater eats a whopping 7,000 animals in the course of a lifetime.

This roughly breaks down to 11 cows, 27 pigs, 2,400 chickens, 80 turkeys, 30 sheep, and 4,500 fish.

While that sheer number alone is shocking enough, consider this: nine billion land animals are slaughtered in the United State every year.

Over 95 percent of those animals are raised on cruel factory farms. These industrial operations treat animals as mere commodities. Most farmed animals are kept in filthy, windowless sheds where they never see the sun or feel the earth beneath their feet. Many are confined in cages so small they can’t turn around, spread their wings, or lie down comfortably.
