A vegan diet is the way to go if you want to lose weight,
according to a newly released study
conducted at the University of South Carolina.
Researchers assigned five different diets to 63 overweight
adults. The only variable in all of the diets was meat consumption. Some
participants were given a semi-vegetarian diet, which allowed occasional meat
intake, while others received a strictly plant-based, all-vegan diet.
The Epoch
TImes reports, “After six months, those on a vegan diet (no animal
products) lost seven percent of their body weight, while the groups that ate
plants plus dairy, fish or meat lost three or four percent of their body weight.”
The results shocked the lead author of the study, Gabrielle Turner-McGievy, who
said, “I personally was surprised that the pesco-vegetarian group didn’t
fair better with weight loss. In the end, their loss was no different than the
semi-vegetarian or omnivorous groups.”
Studies continue to demonstrate that keeping animal products
off your plate is a great way to prevent disease and feel great. In fact,
earlier this year, a study found that eating a vegetarian diet promotes
longevity, and in another, researchers presenting at the International
Conference on Diabetes found that a low-fat, plant-based diet was the most
effective at reducing, and in some cases reversing, type II diabetes in Navajo
populations.
And not only will a vegan diet help you shed those unwanted
pounds, it will also spare the lives of countless animals suffering on modern
farms. For more information on adopting a healthy and humane vegan diet, visit ChooseVeg.com.
